Ervin Boese

Ervin Boese, 83, Grand Forks, formerly of Manfred, N.D., died Tuesday, August 2003 at an Aneta, ND nursing home.

 

Mr. Boese was born Aug. 16, 1920, to Louis and Ella Boese on their farm south of  Manfred where he grew up and began farming with his father at an early age. He attended Manfred Public School. On June 16, 1946, he married Evelina Haluska in Chaseley, ND. They farmed in the Manfred area and he also drove school bus for several years.

 

In 1952, they purchased the Manfred Cash Store. In 1956, they sold the store and purchased the R. O. Reistad farm north of Manfred where they farmed until 1986. They remained in the Manfred area until moving to Grand Forks in 2002. He had recently entered the Parkview Health Center, Aneta.

 

Ervin played tuba with bands in the Manfred and Harvey areas over 35 years. He sang with various church and community groups.   He served on Manfred and Harvey's school boards, the Manfred Elevator Board, Wells County ASCS Board and was Manfred Township clerk 45 years. He was a member of Church of the Nazarene of Fessenden where he taught Sunday School many years. He was a 4-H leader for a number of years.

 

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Paul (Jane), Tim (Lyn), both Grand Forks; a brother, Wesley, Manfred, a sister, Louella Ogelsby, Enderlin; and seven grandchildren.

 

Visitation Friday from 2 - 7 in the Nelson Funeral Home, Fessenden.   Funeral Saturday at 10:30 in Church of the Nazarene, Fessenden. Burial Hillside Cemetery, Fessenden.  

 

Evelina Boese

Evelina Boese, 87, Grand Forks, formerly of the Manfred area, passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at Valley Elder Care in Grand Forks.

Evelina Haluska, daughter of Anton and Martha (Draha) Haluska, was born February 28, 1923 at rural Manfred, ND. She received her early education in Chaseley and Bowdon schools, and, following her high school graduation, attended Minot State College where she received her teaching certificate. She then taught in rural schools in the Martin, Harvey and Chaseley areas.

On June 16, 1946 she was married to Ervin L. Boese in Chaseley. They made their home in the Manfred area where they owned and operated the Manfred Cash Store from 1952 to 1956. They then purchased a farm north of Manfred where they farmed until their retirement in 1986. In 2002 they moved to Grand Forks. Ervin passed away on August 26, 2003.

While living in the Manfred area, Evelina attended the Church of the Nazarene in Fessenden. Since moving to Grand Forks she has attended the Faith Evangelical Free Church.

She is survived by her sons, Paul (Jane) Boese and Tim (Lyn) Boese both of Grand Forks; seven grandchildren; one great grandchild; one brother, Lawrence Haluska of Anamoose; and two sisters, Alvina Bakula of North Hills, CA and Darlene Flick of rural Chaseley.

She was preceded in death by her husband; infant son, Loren; her parents; four brothers, Ed, Fred and two infant brothers, Roy and Levi; and one sister, Edna Hattel.

​

Funeral service: Saturday, February 19 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Fessenden. Visitation: Friday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Nelson Funeral Home in Fessenden. Burial: Hillside Cemetery in Fessenden.
