Torger J. Hauge came to Buxton, ND from Norway. His wife also came from Norway to Buxton. They worked on farms there and were later married in a double wedding ceremony with Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Alveshere. Both couples homesteaded in Manfred Township. About 1896, the Hauge's came to Manfred in a lumber wagon drawn by horses. They brought some chickens and a cow along; at night they slept in barns along the way.
In April 1896, they came to Wells County and took a homestead 4 miles north of Manfred, where they resided the rest of their lives.
